There is a good side to the reduced traffic on the beaches of Hawaii and that is the return of wildlife. Less noise and less people in the water to disturb the tranquility of the ocean creates magical encounters with creatures only seen in deeper waters. Such is the story of a family of dolphins who decided to spend their day close to the beach in calm warmer waters on the West side of Oahu, in a place where few people venture. As the adults are calmly cruising and taking a nap after feeding at dawn, the baby dolphins are restless and take the opportunity to sway away from the stern parents and splash the surface of the calm ocean while darting to and fro' around the sleepy dolphin pod. I suppose being a child is universal and the same goes to being a parent. But at least here on the shores of Hawaii, the parents get to relax while the kids frolic in the calm warm tropical waters. From time to time we go back and swim waiting for the dolphins to come, and more often than not, they show up, and you can here them coming a mile away.

We took these pictures with a gopro camera on the West side of Oahu this summer. After a few dives we started going without the camera and just enjoy the sight of these magnificent creatures which allowed us to enter their living room.
